Pulse Polio drops to be administered on 19th January

In order to make National Immunization Pulse Polio Programme a success on 19 January, 2020 in the state a meeting of State Steering Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anil Kumar Khachi, here today. He directed the officers of concerned departments to extend all cooperation and make dedicated efforts to ensure 100 percent coverage under the special drive.

He said that no case of polio was reported since 2011 in the country while the last case of polio in Himachal Pradesh was reported in November 2009, which belonged to migratory industrial worker of Uttar Pradesh. He said that World Health Organization (WHO) has declared India as Polio Free country in 2014, however the Polio cases were being reported in neighboring countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan etc. He said that with a view to stay away from Polio Virus importation from other countries Government of India has decided to conduct one round of National Immunization Day and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) would be administered to the children of  0-5 years age group.

Special Secretary Health cum Mission Director NHM Dr. Nipun Jindal apprised that Health Department had made all arrangements to make this programme successful. He said that 6.5 Lakh children would be administered Oral Polio Vaccine.

Additional Chief Secretaries (Health)  R.D. Dhiman,  (Home and Industries) Manoj Kumar,  Principal Secretaries J.C. Sharma and K.K. Pant, Special Secretary Revenue D.C. Rana, Director Health Dr. A.K. Gupta, Joint Director WCD Dr. Bhawna and other officers were present in the meeting.
